Model Shop Manager

The New York office of Richard Meier & Partners Architects is looking for a Model Shop Manager to work full time in the model shop on architectural models, exhibition and presentation materials. Richard Meier & Partners is an office with a staff of 45+, led by four Associate Partners and the Managing Partner.

Ideal candidates will have 3+ years of experience in a similar position, a professional design or architecture degree (preferred), strong design sensibility cultivated in a similar practice, proficiency in AutoCAD (Microstation is a plus), and good technical craftsmanship.

Previous experience in this described capacity is a requirement and preference is for candidates based in the New York City area.

Essential Skills & Qualifications:

  • Legal permits and visas required to work in the United States
  • Experience from a leading architecture office managing model making for study and presentation models, model archiving
  • Experience managing all Model Shop related material purchasing and ensuring the safety of model shop users and training new employees in the model shop’s facilities, safety procedures and organization
  • Experience with woodworking, as well as general knowledge & experience in new and innovative model construction techniques
  • Fluent in English, spoken and written (a second language is a plus)
  • Strong management and project coordination skills
  • Autocad, Revit, Rhino and Adobe Suite are assets

New York Office

Recent Graduate to Project Manager Levels

The New York office of Richard Meier & Partners has limited potential opportunities for highly motivated Recent Graduates and Designer through Project Manager level individuals with 3-10 years of well-rounded work experience in Concept Design through Construction Administration phases. RMP is an office with a staff of 45+, led by four Associate Partners and the Managing Partner.

Candidates will have a professional degree in architecture, very strong design sensibility cultivated in similar leading practices, proficiency in AutoCAD (Microstation is a plus), and sound technical experience. For the Project Manager position we seek candidates with a thorough knowledge of Construction Documents, experience in Construction Administration, and demonstrated leadership experience with consulting engineer coordination, technical detailing, specification research, obtaining agency approvals and working with building contractors is required.

All candidates will demonstrate experience with and be responsible for developing details, providing design support, and a full range of communications skills through all phases of work. Preference is for candidates already experienced and based in the New York City area.

Essential Skills & Qualifications
• Fluent in English, spoken and written (a second language is a plus)
• Strong design skills, client management and project coordination skills
• Microstation, Revit, V-Ray, Rhino, Adobe Suite are assets
• Basic 3D Visualization building skills are essential for Designer positions
• Experience from a leading American or International architecture office
• Licensed and/or LEED certification are assets

New York Office

Model Shop

Richard Meier & Partners Architects is seeking advanced architecture students to work full time in the model shop on architectural models, current projects and presentation materials.

Candidates must have excellent skills in the following areas:

  • Construction of physical models
  • Attention to detail and meticulous craftsmanship
  • Written and verbal communications
  • Knowledge of Autocad (Microstation a plus)
  • Familiarity with Adobe software will be a plus

In addition, candidates must:

  • Commit to work full time for at least 6 months
  • Legally be eligible to work in the United States
  • Previous experience in design-oriented architecture office(s) will be a plus

Los Angeles Office

Archivist

The Los Angeles office of Richard Meier & Partners Architects is looking for an Archivist to manage all activities related to the organization, preservation and storage of the firm’s Archive. They will ensure that appropriate content, access and archiving protocol standards are employed and adhered to, consistently by all firm members. The Archive includes paper files, drawings, sketches, models, presentation materials, photography, product design objects, artwork, publications and audio/video tapes. Formats include both paper, digital assets, and models.

Archival resources will be managed and updated in conjunction with office to create lists, bibliographies, website updates, awards submission proposals, lectures, new business presentations, exhibitions, catalogues and books.

Additional responsibilities include the organization and maintenance of the firm’s Product Library and Samples Room, the coordination of all materials for exhibition loans and assisting the firm’s office with any publications, award submissions and new business development efforts.

The position requires a flexible team player and the candidate must be able to lift at least 30 pounds due to the weight of the drawings A background or demonstrated interest in art and architecture is a plus. We are currently looking to fill a part-time position, but please let us know if you would be available to work full-time.
